"Our systems and the people at the top who run them profit when we hate ourselves and each other. God is the tyrant we must endlessly and restlessly prove ourselves to" – that says so much, Lindsay. There always has to be an enemy that we can prove we're better than. I'm guilty of it too.

The emotional manipulation part gets me as well. *Of course* that's what Stuckey is doing, too. She may think she's just "saying what the Bible says," but she is employing guilt and fear and manipulative language.

Oh my! I’m so guilty of it. In seminary I was trying to prove myself endlessly bc I really didn’t believe I belonged. If people weren’t affirming me often, my imposter syndrome kicked in big time. I was so tired. Then the storm came and kicked my ass and showed me I was enough.

When I look at some of the things Stuckey’s saying more closely, I realize she’s just revealing her own insecurities. She’s also wrong. We aren’t trying to get her to agree with us and join our social justice advocacy. We just don’t want her beliefs in our policies. She’s not giving us a data-driven, peer-reviewed research piece to validate her position as something that should be influencing our laws. She’s giving us an emotional one, bc she wants order. She wants things the way they used to be. She also wants to be the best. Proving herself over and over.

She and RHE were both raised in private schools. I’m picking up on a lot of religious trauma too.
